A girl i've been dating celebating Diwali....advice please?

As a non-indian, is it odd/strange or acceptable/nice to get a present for a girl i've been seeing who will celebrate Diwali next month.

If it is nice/accepable, can you suggest anything to get her? Any traditional presents or cards etc? bear in mind though it will be from me as a non-indian. How and when should it be given/wrapped?

Both British by the way.

Thanks for your help!

awww thats really nice!

i dont think that it would be unacceptable at all...

in fact i think thats its pretty respectful

ive gotta few indian mates who are celebrating Diwali..

i usually buy them a nice card and write something in it that says..

may god bless you.. have a wonderful day.. happy Diwali...

stuff like that..

and for the present..

i sometimes buy them something that the whole family can enjoy

like sweets or chocolates... even flowers

however Diwali is the 'festival of light'

where they light candles to keep evil and darkness away...

so you could buy her some nice candles...

anyway, hope this gave ya some ideas

i think your gf will be really appreciative:)

i know i would if my bf ended up doing something like that

there is no specific present for Diwali.

If you want to get her something, you can buy her a box of Indian sweets (there are many shops selling these or you can search a big Tesco) or box of chocolates will also do fine.

Diwali is all about new beginnings in the new year - that is why in India, everyone declutters and cleans their house out, light lamps and candles in their house, wear new clothes, eat sweets and wish each other Happy Diwali !

Get her some sweets or a dry fruits box nicely wrapped up...thats a traditional diwali gift!!
